This is our weekly Podcast which talks about our journey from being employed, comfortably off urban couple in the UK to jobless country bumpkins in Nova Scotia Canada through choice.
During the Podcast we have painted and pampered our house in the UK ready to sell, resigned from our jobs, sold the house, packed up our belongings and moved.
En route we have talked about Templar treasure, lots of UK TV programmes, green issues, political correctness, vegetarianism and lots more besides.
We have podcasted twice from the car, from the beach, from the living room floor in Leeds, in the garden in Nova Scotia and now from the living room floor in NS.
Dowshiftme is about downshifting we have made a choice to prioritise life above income and career. We are aiming to live a simpler life in Nova Scotia on less money. It is not necessarily about being green, or even having no luxuries, we are going to try what works for us.

how's about a roving podcast on a tour of your land? together with some plans for what you are thinking of doing with it? how much land have you got there, proportion of open and wooded ground, aspect, soil...
Great podcast!
I was interested in your water....firstly I guess the water test came back Ok when you bought the place as you are drinking it!!!
When we bought the house we are now in our test came back with soil contamination ie coliform bacteria so we have sediment filters and traps which filter out the soil and grit and also we had a UV filter installed which basically zapps the water as it comes through and eliminates and harmful bacteria.
The last place we lived in had a clear water test when we bought it but it did have a water conditioner on it like yours. We had to fill it up with the salt pellets as and when was needed but to be honest I am not quite sure what the conditioner is for....I think its mostly just for softening the water a little?
Is your well drilled or dug?
Leaks- I know what you mean!! We have a leak that comes through the windows in the basement when the rain is very heavy....oh well!!
Will be very interested to follow your journey!! :)
A sediment filter sounds interesting. I wonder if you would need a UV one if you have a sediment filter due to the possibility of bacteria growth in the filter like I mentioned in the podcast.
Will do some googling if the connection holds (more storms and the phone isn't completely fixed).
You may have to tell me more about such contraptions :)
Going to do another water test as we never saw the results of the one our realtor did (although he said it was clear) and the agency has changed hands so documentation is not so easy to come by as it was all sent to head office when the company changed.
Glad to hear through the grapevine that your water test was fine!!
Yes I must get some photos for you of out set up that we have in the cupboard!!
