downshiftme.com is the website of Matt and AJ and the story of our change from city life in Leeds, UK to a simpler country life in Nova Scotia, Canada. Hopefully there will also be something for those who also wish to downshift for a simpler, happier, more natural lifestyle.

The downshift has landed
I am pleased to announce that around 1:30pm yesterday, Saturday 2nd August 2008, we crossed the border into the United States and returned to Canada as permanent residents.
On 2nd August 2010 we will be eligible to become Canadian citizens.
Welcome! Always nice to welcome newcomers who truly want to be Canadian! So often those born into a country take it all for granted. Invite your friends in for a bit of a celebration! Hope the gardens are doing well!
Just wanted to drop in and say hi, just stumbled across your blog. Had a good read through it. I can totally relate to things you have written. I think it is definaetely a thirty something thing something changes inside of you. I know I started reading more! and getting interested in lots of things and looking at the bigger picture. Downshifting and having a simpler life. Getting of that consumer wheel , looking for meaning. Thinking alot. Its great you have made a good move, it looks beautifull. Uk is expensive and cost of living is too. You only get one life so it should be lived well. x Dominique
Sincere congratulations. I'm enthralled with the requirement to leave the country and re-enter. Was it a flying visit to the US? Did you arrive, take a photo and turn right around?

Well done, this is excellent news! And yes we will be asking your advice on our next steps fairly soon.
